What is CNM?

Christian Nurses and Midwives (CNM) grew out of the Universities & Colleges Christian Fellowship student nurses ministry in 2001. It is a movement and a fellowship of committed Christians in England and Wales seeking to encourage and support one another in faith, clinical practice, ethics, and outreach. We seek to be a Christian voice into our professions and into national and international health policy.

We are a movement because we seek to help one another to be salt and light in our workplaces, to work for justice for vulnerable patients, colleagues and people marginalised in the NHS and society and above all to be witnesses to the life and good news of Jesus Christ in the healthcare setting.

We are a fellowship because we have local groups that meet together for prayer, Bible study and support. We also run conferences and training days with other Christian health professional groups around the country, to encourage and support one another in our work, ministry and walk with God.

Aims:

To encourage Christian nurses and midwives to grow in the knowledge of Christ and to make him known
To promote Christian principles within nursing and midwifery
To develop a network of Christian nurses and midwives for fellowship and prayer
To strengthen and support Christian student nurses and midwives
To support the work of missionary nurses and midwives throughout the world.

Activities

Local Bible study/fellowship/prayer groups
National and regional conferences
CNM News (three times a year), a regular prayer letter
Regular Email newsletter and updates via Facebook and Twitter
Training courses in personal witness, ethics and leadership
Written submissions to Government, professional bodies and other relevant institutions, including the media, on public policy relevant to nursing

We also have a full time field worker for student nurses and a Secretary employed through Christian Medical Fellowship plus associate staff workers and volunteers.

Membership

CNM membership is for you if you believe that you can make a difference as a Christian health professional, and want to join with others who have the same passion and vision.

Membership of CNM is open to any nurse, midwife, health visitor or healthcare assistant in England and Wales who agrees with our statement of beliefs, vision, and aims (please note that there is a separate fellowship for Scotland, and if you are from outside the UK, check the Nurses Christian Fellowship International site for details of Christian nursing bodies in your country).

Membership of CNM gives you access to all our events, services and resources, but above all, it makes you part of a growing national movement of Christians in nursing and midwifery, helping us all to be salt, light and witnesses in our workplaces.

CNM's funding comes entirely from our members, in membership fees, conference fees or donations. If you would like to know more about how to give to the work of CNM, please let us know. CNM is a registered charity in England and Wales (number 11195533), and is registered for Gift Aid.

CNM works in partnership with the Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF), who help with our administration, office space and staffing.

CNM membership also includes all the benefits of associate membership of CMF, including their regular student and graduate journals and other publications, access to their huge range of resources on medical ethics and public policy, plus conferences and other events, newly published books on issues at the interface of Christianity and medicine/nursing, and more.

Basis of Membership: I am in sympathy with the Aims and beliefs of Christian Nurses & Midwives. I declare my faith in God the Father and in God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is my Saviour, and in God the Holy Spirit. I accept the Bible as the supreme authority in matters of faith and conduct.

CNM Membership

Christian Nurses and Midwives is a membership-based organisation (see the About Us section). We welcome any qualified or student nurse or midwife practicing or training in England and Wales who can sign up to our basis of faith, and shares our aims. Please note that there is a separate membership form for joining as a student member. More information for student members can be found here.

If you are from Scotland, the Nurses Christian Fellowship of Scotland is your national fellowship. If you are from elsewhere in Europe you can find details of fellowships in your country here, and for details of Christian nursing fellowships in other parts of the world, click here.

CNM also works in close partnership with the Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF), and membership of CNM now offers you the benefits of being an associate member of CMF at no extra charge. The membership fee is £38 per annum, and can be paid by cheque, card or Direct Debit.

By joining CNM you will receive our three times a year newsletter, CNM News, discounted prices to the national and regional conferences, and regular news and updates of events for Christian nurses, midwives and students happening in your area, across the UK and worldwide. With your CMF membership you will also recieve Triple Helix, CMF's tri-annual journal, plus news and information about multi-disciplinary Christian events around the UK.

Membership (student or graduate) also entitles you to vote and propose resolutions at the CNM Annual General Meeting (see the CNM Constitution for more details).

We also welcome as associate members those who wish to support the ministry of CNM, but who are not currently on the NMC register or in training.
